The Extension's Demonstration and Teaching Garden

Presenters: Kristi Sego & John Atkins

John Atkins grew up in South Georgia and graduated from the University of Georgia, after which he served in the U.S. Army. He worked in the healthcare industry in sales, marketing, and management. He partnered with Kristi to establish and and develop the Extension's Demonstration and Teaching Garden where he manages the veggies with lots of help from other Master Gardeners. His next garden project will be establishing a Purple Martin colony.

Kristie was born in Brownsville, Texas, and grew up primarily on the east coast of Florida near the space center. "I watched the missiles go into space growing up and saw the first manned shot." She received a B.A.E. from the University of Florida, and retired from Macy's purchasing department in 2001.

She began the Broad Street Extension Office garden in October 2012 and the Cleveland Road Extension Demonstration and Teaching Garden with John in October 2019. She intends to develop a special interest demonstration garden featuring bats with a 2023 Wildlife Viewing Grant from the Georgia Division of Natural Resources.
